Abstract

Tatvine motornih vozil so pogost pojav in problem v večjih mestih.

Secondary abstract: Thefts of motor vehicles are a common phenomenon and problem in major cities. Ljubljana is the largest and the capital city of Slovenia, and so the circulation of vehicle is appropriate. Offenders thus have a wide choice of vehicles which are often inadequately or insufficiently secured. By using the ArcGIS program, we conducted an analysis of motor vehicles thefts for the municipality of Ljubljana in the period from 2008 to 2012, which has helped us answer our set hypotheses. The analysis was performed for each individual year as well as for all the years together. After that we compared the results of individual year with each other. We analyzed both spatial and temporal characteristics of motor vehicles thefts. After the completion of the analysis, we gave some of our suggestions, which could potentially contribute to reducing the number of motor vehicles thefts. We established that thefts of motor vehicles occur mainly in areas that are a bit distant from the town centre, but still lie within the city bypass. They occur mainly in unsecured parking areas near residential buildings. In the temporal analysis we concluded that our vehicles are most at risk during the night, when the darkness and inattention of people are in favour of offenders. According to the concluded we suggest that we are more careful where we leave our vehicles. In particular, in the night time, it is important that we leave our vehicles in illuminated areas that are visible from nearby buildings.
