Abstract

Secondary title: Determination of cadmium in water with electrothermal atomic absorption spectometry (ETAAS)
Secondary abstract: I wrote my thesis working in the Physics laboratory of the Department of Quality Assurance of Cinkarna Celje, d. d., where, among others, trace elements in water are being detected. The SIST EN ISO Standard 15586:2003 includes principles and procedures for the determination of trace levels of Cadmium in waters. The characteristics of the method were acquired by inter-laboratory comparison evaluation, and are listed in the standard, along with the optimal range of determining Cadmium in waters (from 0,4 %g/L to 4 %g/L) - the range, optimal for the matrices of surface-, underground-, drinking water and rainwater. Using the Varian SpectrAA DUO AA 240Z GTA 12, we have tried to reach the parameters of the standard and drinking water regulations. We have validated the method for detecting Cadmium in waters with the Varian SpectrAA DUO AA 240Z GTA 12 spectrometer, and evaluated the measurement uncertainty.
