Abstract

Secondary title: INTERNATIONAL BIENNIAL OF GRAPHIC ARTS AS ENCOURAGEMENT FOR DEVELOPING APPRECIATION OF FINE ART
Secondary abstract: This thesis, entitled International Biennial of Graphic Arts as Encouragement for Developing Art Appreciation, consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part is topically broken down into chapters. The paper deals with contemporary art practices, art criticism and art appreciation. It also touches upon museum pedagogy, the Ljubljana Biennial of Graphic Arts and the International Centre of Graphic Arts. The empirical part presents the results of a research among pupils of primary schools in Ljubljana. A guided tour of an exhibition of the 30th Biennial of Graphic Arts was prepared for the pupils using worksheets based mainly on the observation of exhibits. The research focused on the response of the children to the art pieces and how their first impression differs from the impression they have when they have learned more about an art piece. The results show differences among pupils with respect to age, while no such differences were noted with regard to sex.
