Abstract

Secondary title: STATE OF AGRICULTURE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF RIBNICA AND THE VISION OF ORGANIC AGRICULTURE DEVELOPMENT
Secondary abstract: The state of agriculture in the municipality of Ribnica occupies a relatively low level of intensity, especially on arable land of the lowland part of Dolenja Vas. The main activity of the farms on the mountain -situated territory of the municipality of Ribnica is livestock production. Farm owners are mostly older and the younger people are being employed and educated for professions in other, non -agricultural sectors. The succession of the farms is also questionable. The research presents the corporate identity of the agriculture in municipality of Ribnica and according to that, suggests appropriate solutions for the farms, which are simply self-sufficient or are performing a minimum use of arable land. According to the land holding structure and the growing conditions, an economic analysis of organic farming is presented as one of the possibilities for reaching more favourable economic parameters at farming in the analysed area. The economics of organic farming is evaluated with the methods of simulation modelling and the calculation of total costs. With this research we demonstrated that economically eligible organic farming is possible with a proper approach and appropriate technology even on smaller areas, which are not interesting for conventional agriculture. With the methods of simulation modelling and the calculation of total costs we supported conversion plans for individual model farms with appropriate economics evaluation instruments, and this way we wanted to encourage these farms to restructure and to decide for organic farming. With the conversion plan at the first, model – livestock and vegetable – farm, we came to the conclusion that the economy ratio has increased already during the conversion period, from 0.84 to 0.89, and with the acquisition of organic certificate it has increased to 1.09. On the other arable farm the economy ratio has also increased, since it exceeded 1 in the second year of conversion, and in the third year, when the organic production was running, reached 1.34.
