Motivation for learning English in the second triad |
Secondary abstract: |
This BA thesis deals with the pupils’ motivation at English lessons. The theoretical part presents several different forms and approaches to motivation that can help teachers to motivate pupils more effectively.
The aim of the empirical part is to research what the pupils' opinion about English as a school subject is, and what methods might contribute additionally to increase motivation at English lessons. The data obtained by means of a survey questionnaire show that pupils of the second triad of the primary school show a pretty strong motivation for learning and participating at English lessons. The reasons for their motivation are mostly of the external origin. The level of their motivation would be further increased if more topics that students perceive to like and are close to them would be discussed. Most pupils believe that writing is the most difficult part of English language learning. The reasons provided by the pupils lead to the conclusion that reading, writing and speaking in English lessons are quite closely related to each other. However, the biggest problem for the pupils is writing and all other difficulties faced by the pupils arise from writing. |
