Abstract

Secondary title: Stress and factors related to stress among psychology students
Secondary abstract: The present study examined the factors related to stress and coping strategies in relation with neuroticism among two hundred and fourteen psychology students of University of Maribor, University of Ljubljana and University of Primorska. Our main purpose was to explore the connection between demographic variables gender, lifestyle and experiencing stressors among psychology students. The results show that there are differences in the extent of stressors among students who live with their parents and those who live in the dorm or in a rented apartment. The differences observed between different generations of students are not statistically significant. However, a trend was observed: students from second, third, fourth and fifth year of study experienced more stressors related to time pressure and romantic problems than freshmen. The findings showed that women experience higher level of stress than men, however the results are not statistically significant. We found moderate positive statistically significant correlations between neuroticism and level of stress related to developmental challenges and social mistreatment. Similarly, as expected, we found statistically significant moderate positive correlation between the neuroticism and several coping strategies - denial, self-blame and behavioural disengagement.
