Abstract

Secondary title: AWARENESS OF EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION AMONG WOMEN
Secondary abstract: Theoretical basis: Sex without an appropriate protection presents a great danger for unwanted pregnancy. The purpose of the diploma thesis has been to present emergency contraception and to find out with a research if women are familiar with that kind of contraception and its mechanism of working. Research methodology: We have used the descriptive method of research for the theoretical basis. In the research part, we have used the quantitative method of work and we have gained the data with an anonymous questionnaire which included 15 questions of the closed type. The sample included 30 accidentally chosen women in their fertility age. Results: The results have shown that women know their period cycle and know when the highest possibility for fertilization is. 70% of the respondents think that they are well informed and that they know about emergency contraception even though the answers show a little bit different picture. Only 47% correctly defined what an emergency contraception is. The lack of knowledge is presented by a lack of knowledge about the time frame of taking emergency contraception and its mechanism of working. Conclusion: Even though there is a general awareness and knowledge of contraception, there are still women whose knowledge is deteriorated and we have to care about their awareness. Only the informed women with correct information will be able to form their own opinion based on their knowledge and make the right decision in case of an unprotected sexual intercourse.
