magistrsko delo
Abstract
Izpostavili bomo lastnosti managerk in njihove prednosti.

Women in management |
Secondary abstract: |
The world of management has always been in favor of men. Women and their abilities to manage companies have stayed unnoticed for a long time. We are all familiar with the sayings “Behind every successful man is a woman” and “A woman holds up three corners of the house, and supports the fourth. « The mentality that a woman must support her partner and take care of the family is deep-rooted into our society. Therefore we wonder whether a woman can be a successful mother and wife, as well as a successful manager.
This Master’s thesis deals with the position of women in leading positions in business companies in Slovenia and with obstacles women encounter on their way to the top management positions. We will emphasize the characteristics of female managers and their advantages. We will describe male and female management style in detail and present the solutions for breaking gender barriers for women’s promotion on the organizational level. We will also check what legislation can do in this matter, as well women alone. We will compare the position of female managers in Slovenia with those in other members of the European Union, paying special attention on gender pay gap, level of education, and the percentage of women in leading management positions.
This thesis consists of two parts, theoretical and empirical. In the theoretical part we have thoroughly described the definition of management, duties and functions of managers, female management style, stereotypes of female managers, and differences in management styles.
The empirical part deals with the presentation of research results on women’s position in management in Slovenia. Our research has been done on women in leading positions in different Slovenian corporations. The research summarizes the reasons for smaller percentage of women in leading positions, precisely which barriers did women, who today have the leading position in large Slovenian companies, have to overcome at the beginning of their career. In our research we predict what will happen with the number of women in leading positions in the future. |
