Abstract

Porast tega problema zaskrbljujoč, zato sta nujna izobraževanje zdravstvenega osebja in ozaveščanje javnosti o tej problematiki.

Secondary title: EVALUTING PATIENT SAFETY KNOWLEDGE OF NURSING STUDENTS
Secondary abstract: SUMMARY Basis. Unwanted event is an event which negatively affects or has a harmful effect on the patient. In the prevention of unwanted events a nurse has an important role, so the purpose of this master thesis is to present the impact of health care on patient safety and to highlight those factors which may lead to unwanted events. Methodology of research. Research was based on a quantitative methodology, where we used a structured questionnaire for data collection. The research sample has included 50 participants, which were invited randomly. The research was carried out in March 2015. Results. Data analysis shows that for patient safety is not sufficiently taken care of, and could still be improved. Interviewed students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Maribor are familiar with the factors which often lead to the unwanted event. The study shows that education about safe work with the patients evaluate the 17 (33%) interviewed persons as excellent knowledge of the field, 14 (27%) interviewed persons as a good knowledge of the field, 10 (20%) interviewed persons as medium knowledge, a lack of knowledge have 6 (13%) interviewed persons and 3 (7%) interviewed persons have a very inadequate knowledge about the safe work with patients. With the help of Mann Whitney test and the data collected from participating persons, we found out that the first hypothesis is confirmed (p = 0,031), postgraduate students at the Faculty of Health Sciences have more knowledge (self-assesed) than the students at the undergraduate level of study. Second hypothesis with the argument that students who discus about unwanted event, have more knowledge, as students who disguise unwanted event, was not confirmed (p = 0,166). Conclusion. Safety of patients is too frequent problem in healthcare facilities or organizations. Nowadays its increase is concerning. Therefore it is necessary to educate health personnel and raise awareness in public on the problem. Keywords: safety, quality, students, health care, the patient.
