diplomsko delo visokošolskega strokovnega študija Varnost in policijsko delo
Abstract

Stress is an integral part of our lives. It is imperative that we know how to overcome and manage it. There are several reasons for stress. Stress arises in the workplace, while it can also be the result of everyday hassles. It is important how an individual responds to stress and how they try to manage it. As we are all faced with stress in the workplace, this type of stress is becoming an increasingly significant problem. The most common stress factors in the workplace are job characteristics, the set tasks, etc. The mitigation or elimination of stress factors is of key importance both for maintaining the health and effectiveness of employees and for an organisation's operation.
Reviewing studies on the work of judicial police officers has allowed us to establish that prison employees experience different stress factors. Judicial police officers are exposed to stress due to the unpredictability of their work, the troublesome nature of inmates, shift work and long working hours as well as due to intimidation in the workplace instigated by the inmates. Poor working conditions and low salaries also contribute to job dissatisfaction.
This diploma thesis comprises two parts: the theoretical and the empirical part. The theoretical part describes stress in general, workplace stress and the elimination and prevention of stress with emphasis on anti-stress programmes for police officers. The thesis continues with a presentation of the Prison Administration of the Republic of Slovenia, the role of a judicial police officer and the Dob Prison and provides an overview of previous studies from the field of work of judicial police officers. The empirical part of the thesis comprises a survey of stress among judicial police officers, which was conducted among employed judicial police officers and which established the level of stress in the workplace. Our findings have shown that employed judicial police officers may experience workplace stress. These findings were used to provide the responsible persons with individual proposals that may contribute to improving work conditions of judicial police officers |
