Abstract

Secondary title: Trauma and analgesic therapy in the prehospital environment
Secondary abstract: Theoretical framework: The work of qualified healthcare workers does not include just health care which is taught hospital environments and schools. A recent trend of hiring qualified healthcare workers aimed at improving the quality of patient care in prehospital environments of emergency medical services is visible. Purpose: This research was aimed at determining whether qualified healthcare workers have sufficient knowledge in recognizing the need for analgesic therapy and utilizing it by themselves on the field. In the theoretical part of this diploma paper we presented the role of the qualified healthcare worker in nursing patients on the field as well as the equipment needed for this task. We also tried to determine the importance of analgesic therapy and when a patient should receive it. Methods: We utilized the quantitative research method with the help of an anonymous survey. Qualified healthcare workers of emergency medical services in Slovenia were selected as the sample group. Results and discussions: The data obtained via the research showed that qualified healthcare workers have little or no knowledge of analgesic therapy and also lack any additional education on emergency medical services. We did, however, notice an increasing interest in additional education regarding on-field medicament therapy as well as other courses on emergency medical services.
