Abstract

Namen diplomskega dela je določiti kritično micelno koncentracijo (CMC) vodnih raztopin različnim površinsko aktivnim snovem na osnovi merjenja gostote. CMC smo določevali dvema neionskima surfaktantoma: Oktil fenol etoksilat (40) (Triton X-405), oktil fenol etoksilat (9-10) (Triton X-100); kationskemu surfaktantu: Heksadeciltrimetilamonijev bromid (CTAB); ionskemu surfaktantu: Natrijev dodecil sulfat (SDS); in obojestranskemu surfaktantu: 3-(N,N-dimetilmiristilamonijev) propansulfonat.

Secondary title: Determination of the critical micelle concentration of surfactants in water solution by density measurement
Secondary abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of various surfactants within aqueous solutions on the basis of the density measurements. The CMC was determined for two non-ionic surfactants: Polyoxyethylene (40) isooctylcyclohexyl ether (Triton X-405), Polyoxyethylene (10) isooctylcyclohexyl ether (Triton X-100); cationic surfactant: Hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB); anionic surfactant: Dodecyl sodium sulphate (SDS); and zwitterionic surfactant: 3-(N,N-Dimethylmyristylammonio) propanesulfonate. The solutions were prepared with Milli-Q water. All the experiments were performed at a temperature of (25C  1) C. At least two independent measurements were done for each system, in order to check for the reproducibility. Two linear segments in the density molarity plots are obtained, the CMC of the surfactant was taken at the intersection of the apparently straight lines. From the intersection of the straight lines, the CMC can be determined quite accurately. It could be concluded that used method (density measurements) is suitable for determination of CMC’s values of surfactants within aqueous solutions.
