Abstract

Secondary title: Presence of Slovenian public libraries on Facebook
Secondary abstract: One of the possibilities for Slovenian public libraries to get closer to their users is to be present on Facebook. In January 2013, 31 Slovenian public librarians, who manage a Facebook profile or a Facebook page of a public library, were surveyed through questionnaire. In early February 2013, all profiles or pages of public libraries present on Facebook were examined with content analysis. 50 Slovenian public libraries (83 % of all Slovenian public libraries (60)) are present on Facebook. 58 % of libraries decided to be present on Facebook because of the amount of users, and 48 % wanted to keep upto date with new technology or follow trends. Almost all librarians (97 %) use Facebook for promoting library events and for keeping users informed. Onlyone library included in the survey has a document on social media policy (Facebook use and behaviour guidelines). All surveyed librarians want to reach non-patrons, after that the youth, patrons and adults. It is not possible to search on COBISS/OPAC within Facebook.
