delo diplomskega seminarja
Abstract

Gender differences in entrepreneurial activity in Slovenia |
Secondary abstract: |
People decide to start with the entrepreneurial activity mainly from two reasons – to exploit business opportunity or out of necessity. As we found out more and more of the adults in Slovenia are involved in entrepreneurship because of opportunity, which is a good sign, because they are not forced to do this to survive.
Still significantly more men than women are opting for an entrepreneurial way, as the conditions for men are still more favorable than for women. The female participation in the entrepreneurial activity varies from year to year. It is therefore necessary in the society to invest more efforts and time into activites that enable women to participate in the entrepreneurship equally as compared with men. The problem here is that in average fewer women than men believe that they are capable to start with the entrepreneurial career. In average also higher proportion of women than men think that they lack the necessary skills, knowledge and experience.
With the purpose to analyze the entrepreneurial activity the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) research takes place, which is implemented by the Institute for entrepreneurship and management of small businesses at the Faculty od Economics and Business, University of Maribor. In the study it is evident that the quantity od entrepreneurial activity in Slovenia in last few years is growing.
Empirical analysis in the diploma work was carried out with data set, obtained with the help of GEM 2013. Our aim was to determine whether there are differences between men and women in the engagement into the entrepreneurial activity in Slovenia, as well as differences regarding age, education, income, motivational orientation, innovation orientation and the tendency to growth. |
