Abstract

Secondary title: THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIO – ECONOMIC VALUES ON THE FOOD QUALITY OF ELDERLY PEOPLE IN HOME ENVIRONMENT
Secondary abstract: ABSTRACT In our diploma paper we introduced the impacts of socioeconomic and health values on the quality of nutrition of elderly people as well as the influence of home environment on food habits of elderly people and the meaning of well-balanced and appropriate nutrition for elderly people and the nutrient content in different foods. We conducted a survey among members of the Tabor Pensioner's Organisation in Maribor. It showed us how much elderly people are aware of the importance of healthy diet for the quality of life and longevity and how much attention they pay to the amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals in food they buy. Results contain survey respondent's answers to questions, which show that more and more elderly people are aware of the meaning of healthy and well-balanced diet, but are not always able to afford it. Most of them say they would pay more attention to nutritional value of their food, if their financial situation would allow them to. But for now they are trying their best to eat as well and healthy as they can afford. Key words: elderly people, socioeconomic values, health values, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals.
