Abstract

Secondary title: The general nursery school teachers' attitude towards singing
Secondary abstract: Music, basically singing, brings happiness, relaxation, liveliness as well as calmness and palliation in a child's life. Pre-school children feel some inner need to sing; singing connects and combines the children with each other and also with the medium, the teacher. The aim of the research was to look into the kindergarten teachers' attitude towards singing, the quality and the quantity of performing reproductive and creative singing in the pre-school education. The research has showed that the kindergarten teachers like singing and they believe it is important to motivate the children's interest in singing. Also, the majority of the teachers involved in the study believes that a teacher and a teacher's assistant should have a well-developed musical ear for rhythm and melody. The kindergarten teachers choose songs appropriate for a certain age group, while pre-singing intonation is not the usual habit. The predominant kindergarten teachers' opinion is that the preparation for singing is very important. If a certain teacher's assistant should perform the incorrect way of singing in front of a group of children, the majority of teachers would point this out and offer help. The kindergarten teachers plan reproductive singing at least once a week and it is occasionally performed during every-day work with the children; on the other hand, creative singing is planned only occasionally. The teachers claim to notice that the children are involved into creative singing even when not supported by an adult person; this proves that creative singing is a form of natural development in young children.
