Abstract

Secondary title: MOBILE APPLICATION FOR INDOOR LOCATION ON ANDROID OPERATING SYSTEM
Secondary abstract: In this work we studied indoor location techniques for smart phone devices. Our solution is composed of access points, local network server, web and android application. Focus of our study was on the effectiveness and accuracy of indoor location estimation by using log-distance model. We analysed accuracy and robustness of the system at various levels of signal strength, using only two access points at different fixed positions and while moving. We also analysed the connection between signal strength variations and accuracy of location estimations. Our algorithm is based on space calibration by using reference points. In a space with size of 137 m2 with at least 15 reference points, spread out across the entire signal strength spectrum, and at least 3 access points, our algorithm produced location estimates with an average error of  2.5 m. In a space with less reference points or just two access points, the average error of location estimation increased to  5 m or more. Our analysis also showed that our approach is insufficiently accurate when the user is moving.
