Abstract

The opinion of young people in Slovenia on extremism |
Secondary abstract: |
In recent years, extremism has become a global problem, we hear more and more media reports on extremism every day. This is why we decided to describe and present its main features, describe the different types of extremism and find out what it is like with extremism in our country, Slovenia. We focused on extremism as a consequence of a crisis and also on extremists and their characteristics. We wrote about extremism in Slovenia and which extremist groups are active in this area, for example Blood and Honour and Ravnogorsko movement of Slovenia. We also said something about Islamic radicalism and about the group ISIS or in other words Islamic state. We summarized the key points of a program called Prevent, which was designed in Great Britain, as a base for preventing the ever-growing problem of extremism. We conducted a research among young people in Slovenia. The survey questionnaire was composed with the help of an internet site called www.1ka.si and forwarded through social media sites and contacts. It was forwarded to persons between the ages of 15 and 29. We wanted to know about their knowledge of extremism, where they get most of their information from and if they feel threatened. We found out that young people in Slovenia describe their knowledge of extremism as something medium, they know something but they do not know much. We also found out that they get most of their information with the help of internet, but there are also some other sources of information that are popular, for example television shows, different magazines and such. Another thing we found out was that young people in Slovenia do not feel threatened by extremism and they do not think that Slovenia is in danger of being a potential target of an extremist attack. |
