Abstract

Naglušne osebe največkrat skušajo reševati težave s pomočjo slušnih akustikov, prijateljev in svojcev.

Secondary title: PROBLEMS OF THE PARTIALLY DEAF
Secondary abstract: Theoretical starting points: Hard of hearing people are often faced with difficulties. Their most common problem is poor communication with the environment, which they are not aware of. Often, these problems occur because hard of hearing people do not use hearing aids and are unable to handle them properly. The purpose of present graduate thesis was to determine which are the most common problems of hard of hearing persons, where such issues appear and who helps hearing-impaired people to solve their problems. We were interested in the role of a nurse when dealing with the problems of hearing-impaired patients, what help they can expect from her and the role of The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Clubs Association of Slovenia in connection with the involvement of hearing-impaired persons in everyday life. We carried out the research based on these theoretical starting points. Research methodology: we used quantitative procedure of research and we used a partly structured questionnaire, which contained 14 closed questions and 8 half-open questions, as a research subject. The research was carried out at one of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Clubs of Slovenia in 2015, on the basis of the sample of 38 hard of hearing people. Results: the results indicated that the main problems of hard of hearing people are difficult communication and the use of hearing aids. Hard of hearing persons mostly try to solve their problems with the help of hearing aid audiologists, friends and relatives. Most often they encounter problems in a group of more people. Also, they often experience problems in healthcare facilities. In this case, a nurse could help in solving their problems. Discussion: the findings indicate that the most common problem of hard of hearing people is communication and in connection with it, also the use of hearing aids. Most often the problems occur in a group of more people and where the hearing-impaired are exposed to the noise. In such situation, hard of hearing people hardly focus on conversation. Most often they also do not understand or hear what people talk among themselves. Despite having hearing aids, many hearing-impaired persons do not use them when they should, because of different causes. A nurse could help hard of hearing persons in solving their problems, as she is the first in making contact with them and her help depends on her knowledge, skills and experience.
