Abstract

Impresionizem je obdobje umetnostne smeri s konca 19. stoletja, nastala je kot nekakšna revolucionarna smer, saj je kršila dotedanja pravila, ki so veljala v umetnosti, to so pretiravanje, patetičnost in izumetničenost romantike, upodabljanje zgodovinske in religiozne tematike ter idealne lepote ipd. Impresionisti so bili zaradi tega velikokrat zaničevani in nerazumljeni. Claude Achille Debussy je najpomembnejši impresionistični skladatelj in začetnik glasbenega modernizma. Skladal je predvsem orkestralno in klavirsko glasbo, ki jo je pisal in dojemal drugače kot ostali. Tudi sam je bil pianist in lahko bi ga označili kot upornika proti strogim pravilom svojih predhodnikov in učiteljev. Zanimale so ga glasbene lepote eksotičnih narodov in pod vplivom ruskih romantikov nacionalne smeri je ustvaril niz "revolucionarnih" skladb, kot so jih pojmovali sodobniki. Debussy, ki se je raje družil s slikarji kot z glasbeniki, je iz impresionizma slikarjev dobil navdih za svojo glasbo. Zanimalo ga je vse, kar je izpodbijalo ustaljena glasbena prepričanja. Z opiranjem na slikarstvo impresionistov je poskušal v glasbi pričarati prelivanje temeljnih barv spektra (spremljava v kratkotrajnih notah brez zaporedja glasov, zaradi česar ostaja le predstava o nekem razpoloženju, barvi). Debussy je ustvarjal bolj pod vplivom drugih umetnosti kot pod vplivom glasbe. Zelo ga je zanimala tudi literatura takratnega francoskega simbolizma, na osnovi katere je oblikoval svoj edinstveni slog. Osebno se je seznanil s takratnimi pisatelji in pesniki, ki so pisali v slogu francoskega simbolizma, kar je pustilo sledi v njegovih delih.

Secondary abstract: Impressionism is an artistic movement from the end of the 19th century; it emerged as a somehow revolutionary trend as it breached artistic rules valid in art up to then, such as exaggeration, pathos and artfulness of Romanticism, presenting historic and religious topics, ideal beauty, etc. Owing to this, impressionists were often looked down on and not understood. Claude Achille Debussy is the most important impressionist composer and a pioneer of modernism in music. He composed primarily orchestral and piano music; he composed and perceived music in a different way than other composers. He was a pianist himself and could be called a rebel against strict rules of his predecessors and teachers. He was interested in music of exotic nations and under the influence of the national trend of Russian Romanticism he created several "revolutionary" pieces as referred to by his contemporaries. Debussy preferred the company of painters over the company of musicians, and impressionist painters inspired his music. He was interested in everything that challenged settled music convictions and, based on impressionist paintings, he tried to bring about casting of basic colours in the spectrum (accompaniment with short notes, without the sequence of voices, which leaves only a feeling of a certain mood, colour). Other artistic disciplines had more impact upon Debussy's work than music. He was very much interested in French Symbolism in literature, on the basis of which he formed his own unique style. He personally knew French Symbolist poets and writers of his time, which influenced his works.
