Abstract

Secondary title: Emotional abuse of children : I am worth as much as they love me
Secondary abstract: The present article covers the topic of emotional violence in childhood, which encompasses any type of child maltreatment, breaking down his or her self-respect and damaging or preventing the childćs healthy psychological development on the basis of humiliation, degradation, criticism, prolonged ignoring and similar behavior patterns of devaluation of the victim on a personal level. Such a damaged sense of self inevitably exposes the victim to high vulnerability for numerous serious and long-term problems in terms of health, overall quality of life, relationship towards the self and towards other people. It is undoubtedly necessary for the prevention of abuse of the young and the youngest members of our society, to become a public concern and responsibility. We could achieve this by systematic awareness raising, hand in hand with targeted prevention and action activities as one of our absolute public health priorities.
