Secondary abstract: | The article deals with the link between individual economic security and international business in the European Union (EU). The main purpose is to present a historical overview as well as the main characteristics of Regulation no. 883/04, which is aimed at assuring the coordination of social welfare systems. We also consider the implications the Regulation holds for the development of international business within the EU. The article is based around the notion that the importance of welfare growth, during the formation of the European Economic Community, was mainly perceived as a vehicle for increasing international business and establishing mechanisms for the coordination of social welfare systems. The latter thus means that both were seen as complements instead of substitutes. |
