Abstract

Secondary abstract: The aim of our research was to apply a screening process for identifying developmental coordination disorder (DCD) in children before entering school using selected assessment tools. We wanted to determine the prevalence of children with DCD in the sample of 196 five-year-old children from public kindergartens in Ljubljana, to obtain the gender ratio according to the existence of DCD in the sample, and to study the differences between children with DCD and children without DCD in regard to individual assessment tools. Children were assessed with the M-ABC and the VMI, and their preschool teachers completed the DCDQć07-SI. Statistical analysis was made using descriptive analysis, calculation of frequencies, and the mean differences were assessed using the Mann-Whitney test (the criterion of normal distribution was not met). Research showed statistically significant differences between the DCD and the non-DCD group in individual diagnostic assessments. Our screening process was proved to be efficient.
