Abstract

Pri preiskovanju kaznivih dejanj se uporabljajo različne metode in tehnike. Ena skupina teh so tehnike preiskovalne psihologije. Sem spadajo kognitivni intervju, poligrafiranje, hipnoza, prepoznava obrazov storilcev kaznivih dejanj, forenzična lingvistika, psihološko profiliranje in psihološka avtopsija. S površno izvedbo psihološke avtopsije so prišli do zaključka o krivdi mornarja Claytona Hartwiga, vendar so ga čez dve leti po dodatnih preiskavah oprostili obtožb.

Secondary abstract: Cognitive interview, hypnosis, polygraph tests, face recognition, forensic linguistics, psychological profiling, and psychological autopsy are some of forensic psychology techniques used for investigating crimes. Forensic linguistics can give us information about author from analysing written or spoken messages. Suspect characteristics can be concluded from act features using psychological profiling. Profiling is used to gather information about suspect's characteristics, based on act's features. It helps investigators by narrowing number of suspects and using findings in interrogations. With psychological autopsy method deceased's life is reconstructed using personal files, police, medical, and coroner's reports, and other data provided by his friends, family, coworkers, and physician. It is executed in equivocal death cases (possible accident, suicide, homicide, or natural cause of death), when relatives disagree with coroner's assessment about completed suicide, in life insurance cases, last will and testament cases, in worker's compensation cases, or self-defense criminal cases. Inglorious psychological autopsy case is described. On April 19th 1989 an explosion occurred on USS Iowa killing 47 sailors. Negligent psychological autopsy led to conclusion that one of the sailors, Clayton Hartwig was responsible for tragedy. After two years and additional inquiry his name was cleared.
