delo diplomskega seminarja

Abstract

Secondary title: ǂThe ǂanalysis of the barriers for entering of micro, small and medium sized enterprises from Podravje region to foreign markets
Secondary abstract: This diploma project deals with the issue of the entry of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from Podravje region to foreign markets. It is focused on comparing the situation between enterprises that are involved in doing business on national level and on the level of the European Union. Based on a detailed definition of the internationalization of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and the institutional support for internationalization, we have presented the main objectives of the project. Later on we have focused on detailed analysis of entering SMEs from Podravje region to foreign markets. We have decided for the topic of the diploma project because of the important circumstance - the lack of empirical data on entering of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises from Podravje region to foreign markets, even though the discussed companies represent the largest share among all enterprises. We went into the details of barriers, these companies encounter in their international activities and tried to establish how they are faced with those barriers in international business. In the analysis we distinguished between internal and external barriers of SMEs. Among the goals of diploma project we focused on the barriers of SMEs for entering foreign markets and confronting them in a certain situation, respectively. We exposed the importance of internationalization in relation to the current situation on the domestic market and the markets of the EU. We confirmed the hypothesis that SMEs are faced with more barriers for entering foreign markets than large companies. Likewise, we confirmed the hypothesis that SMEs, which are already present at foreign markets, have lower expectations about institutional support to international activities. The hypothesis on the knowledge and usage of institutional incentives for international activities of SMEs was confirmed only partially.
