Abstract

Business ethics and corruption in micro and small business in Slovenia |
Secondary abstract: |
Business and corruption are two interconnected areas which are commonly written and spoken about. Today, corruption is a very big problem in the world and it has been reported that it is growing more and more year by year. Inevitably those institutions involved in fighting against such crimes are getting an increased amount of work every year. It is corruption and the lack of integrity among businesses which makes it difficult to find, reveal and prove for those institutions fighting against corruption. All those who are participating in this fight have an interest in revealing and proving it. It makes it difficult for these institutions to prove and reveal the acts of corruption by the company as it cannot be easily measured and it is very difficult to detect. A lot of research and investigation needs to be put into finding out whether one has been involved in an act of corruption as there really is no measuring tool. However, everyone has its participants in corrupt actions, and some have no interest in investigating and proving this. The results of the survey showed the relationship between the directors of Slovenian micro and small enterprises to corruption and how critical they are to participating in unethical behavior. They evaluate the work of the institutions that are struggling against informal economies, and also whether they have a integrity policy written in the company, which highlights the guidelines for honest and ethical business in the company. We have found that companies doing business with one another, in particular Director's of companies negotiating deals together do not check for past corrupt acts in the company and or the integrity policy within the company before going into business together. On the other hand it has been found that that lack of integrity and certain corrupt actions have a major impact on the decision and on whether or not companies will go into business with one another. Unfortunately, we have noticed that even today, the vast majority of micro and small companies in Slovenia do not have integrity policies written in place which means, that there is still a lot to be done among businesses. Companies need to understand the importance of integrity and business code of ethics and what impact it has on the economy, society and the financial status of all citizens. |
