Abstract

Secondary title: The influence of road infrastructure on the traffic safety of older participants in traffic
Secondary abstract: The traffic safety of older people is becoming more and more important as social factor. The number of older inhabitants is gradually increasing in Slovenia. According to the latest data, 18.2% of people living in Slovenia are older than 65 years. Taking this into consideration, the older often participate in traffic accidents and also cause them. The elderly are mostly involved in traffic accidents as drivers of cars and other motor vehicles. This might be the consequence of the fact that more than a half of the older people still possess a valid driving license; the mobility therefore presents both the quality of life and limitless journey in the exact area and time. In order to maintain the traffic safety on the current level and not let it get worse, the present master's thesis analyses traffic accidents in which the older participate. Moreover, it establishes common imperfections. There are also probabilities of the traffic accident occurrence with an individual element of road infrastructure calculated, and also the levels of traffic safety for examined intersections calculated. According to the facts and causes of traffic accidents, infrastructure solutions known abroad have been introduced. This solutions are also used in planning shared line markings for older participants. Such constructed and performed road infrastructure has positive effects on all the participants in road traffic and at the same time it presents a part of the sustainable development of a road network.
