magistrsko delo
Abstract

ǂThe ǂintegration of women into the leadership positions in Europe |
Secondary abstract: |
The issue of women's equality is topical for a long time. Changes that are more clearly began to emerge after the adoption of voting rights for women, today reached a completely new dimension. Where once women can only vote for, today can also be elected. Written within documents is only a formal record, but in practice things turn out differently. In this thesis, we are focused into this topic. Integration of women into leadership positions represents a major shift in the economy and the global environment, as well as for the woman as a person. Leadership should be domain of the individual man, which is nowadays common ground with the principles of democracy and therefore with so praised gender equality. Leadership positions that women can reach today, are by the quality of work completely equal to men. In this master thesis, we also started to deal with management, which has served us as a starting factor in defining the next chapter on governance. We have presented different definitions of leadership, what deals with, how is defined by different authors and last but not least described leadership styles and models. Furthermore, we focused on the leader as a person and searched for qualities of itself that are creating a good leader. As the leader can be male or female, we also shown the differences between male and female leadership. Women and men are different by biological factors, as well as social. We also summarize the typical female characteristics which should be an advantage for women in management. The fourth chapter is the central theme of unequal position of the sexes. Differences appear in all fields of public and private life, but we are representing only particular differences, such as salaries, education and retirement. We opened the topic of the current issue of women as well-question of motherhood. In the next, the fifth chapter, the main talk is focused on the progress of women. Today, the situation of women is much better than it was a few decades ago. However, since gender equality in practice despite governed by the law is still not the same as on paper, we highlight measures to increase women into the leadership positions. We highlight the introduction of quotas, which are considered one of the most successful mechanisms for the integration of women into the leadership positions. We showed the progress of women in numbers, therefore, how the number of women in leading positions changed from a few years ago to now days. In the last chapter, the subject is intended to examples of successful women in Europe, who are currently working in a leading position and who, despite the unequal treatment, which we have previously spoken, managed to build his career. We represented some successful women in Slovenia as well. We also gave attention to the positions of women in Slovenia and later on represented our conclusions. Finally, we have presented proposals for improvements that can serve as a good starting point for future goals to improve the achievement of gender equality. |
