Abstract
V času po Titovi smrti so se razmere v tedanji skupni državi Jugoslaviji precej poslabšale. Država je zašla v vsesplošno politično in gospodarsko krizo. Poleg tega so se v Sloveniji vedno bolj uveljavljale ambicije po samostojnosti in lastni državi. Po izvedbi plebiscita o samostojnosti decembra 1991, prvih večstrankarskih volitvah in ustanovitvi Teritorialne obrambe Republike Slovenije (vključno z njenima učnima centroma na Igu pri Ljubljani in v Pekrah pri Mariboru) je prišlo do še intenzivnejšega procesa osamosvajanja. Republika Slovenija namreč ni več želela pošiljati vojaških nabornikov na usposabljanje v Jugoslovansko ljudsko armado, temveč je želela ustanoviti lastno vojsko. Jugoslovanski politični vrh in Jugoslovanska ljudska armada se s slovensko odločitvijo nista strinjala, zato sta sklenila proti Sloveniji nastopiti z agresijo.

THE IMPORTANCE OF EVENT IN PEKRE FOR INDEPENDENCE OF SLOVENIA |
Secondary abstract: |
After Tito's death the situation in the former one country of Yugoslavia considerably worsened. The country reached an overall political and economic crisis. Moreover, Slovenia increasingly pushed its ambitions for sovereignty and own country. After the plebiscite in December 1991, the first multi-party elections and the establishment of Territorial Defence (including its learning centres at Ig near Ljubljana and Pekre near Maribor), the process for gaining independence further intensified. The Republic of Slovenia didn't want to send military recruits for training to the Yugoslav's People's Army, but rather wanted to establish its own army. The Yugoslav political leadership and the Yugoslav's People' Army didn't agree with this decision and decided to act with force against Slovenia. Because of the belief that the 710th training centre at Pekre was more easily manageable and that there was a sense of general discontent present in Maribor, they decided that Pekre would be an easier target than Ig. It is because of this mistaken belief of the Yugoslav political leadership we can say with certainty that the events of 23 and 24 May 1991 had an immense contribution to Slovenia's independence and establishing its own army and country. |
