Abstract

Secondary title: LEADERSHIP STYLE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL X
Secondary abstract: The subject of successful leadership has received a lot of attention in the past, as well as into the present. In the process, many leadership theories were created as a tool of sorts for anyone holding leadership positions. What should a good leader be like? Which styles of leadership are most effective and when should one use them? These questions are currently the subject of much debate. In principle, a good leader listens to employees, accepts their suggestions, cooperates with them, motivates them, encourages their creativity and self-initiative, trusts them, and involves them in the decision-making process. A leadership style used to influence employees in order to achieve the desired goals depends on personality traits, an organization’s characteristics, the nature of work, employees, etc. Largely it also depends on the situation that (often) demands an adjustment of the leadership style. In primary schools, this role belongs to the principal. The principal, as the leader of an educational establishment, is not only a management body but also a pedagogic leader. The following undergraduate thesis researches which leadership style is used by the principal of XYZ Primary School. We set forth three hypotheses and used them to assess whether the principal uses a democratic leadership style, how satisfied employees are with such a leadership style, and to what extent the employees are included in the decision-making processes.
