Secondary title: | Simulation analysis of the picker-to-part order picking process |
Secondary abstract: | Common question which logistics experts are facing at warehousing operations is how to reduce costs and at the same time increase the efficiency and speed of the order picking process. One of the ways to optimize the picker-to-part order picking process is a choice of appropriate picking strategy, which affects the length of the order picking route. On the other hand proper aisle configuration helps to increase the fluidity of the warehouse and increase the efficiency of order pickers. In our work we have gone a step further and combined the two mentioned approaches to optimize order picking process. Through simulation analyze of different warehouses sizes we have proved that with the implementation of a two-block rack storage system and selection of the appropriate picking and storage strategies can shorten the average picking route up to 30 percent. Shorter picking route consequently means a shorter time to prepare customers orders. |
