Abstract

Secondary title: Influence of vitamin D on child health
Secondary abstract: Theoretical background: Vitamin D has great impact on children's health. There are several ways to ensure our body has enough vitamin D. Most common ways are through food and sunlight, but we can also use food supplements. Hypovitaminosis is lack of any vitamin in body. Vitamin D deficiency is common in general population. Purpose of this thesis is to present importance of vitamin D for children's health. Research methodology: In thesis, we used the descriptive method by studying domestic and foreign professional literature. When searching the literature, we used bibliographic system COBISS, database ScienceDirect and service Google Scholar. Results: Vitamin D deficiency and its consequences on health can be avoided by following simple tips. Neonates and infants are particularly at risk for developing vitamin D deficiency because breast milk cannot provide the required amount of vitamin D needed. The need for vitamin D supplements decreases while growing up due to increased sun exposure. Sunlight cannot provide enough vitamin D for organism during all seasons, so it is recommended for certain risk groups to add vitamin D in the form of food supplement in winter months. Conclusion: Vitamin D is very important for the growth, development and the proper functioning of the organism. Children are especially vulnerable group, and we have to ensure that we offer them everything that will enable them to grow up healthy. Vitamin D has an important role in ensuring that.
