Abstract

Diplomska naloga z naslovom "Avtoportret" obravnava fenomen avtoportreta in njegove tradicije v umetnosti.

Secondary title: Self-portrait
Secondary abstract: The thesis entitled "Self-portrait" deals with the phenomenon of self-portrait and its traditions in art. Since the portrayed and portraitist is one and the same person, their dialogue will be anything but a formal record of external appearance (as it can be with portrait). This dialogue goes beyond the limits of formal artistic language and it is touching psychological and philosophical areas of our personality. Through few examples from history of art and contemporary photography we will deal with the 'self' as with elementary particle of our psyche and self-portrait genre. Self-portrait can be most direct way of communication with the viewer, it can be a "mask", it can be a tool for therapy, the path to catharsis, cry for self-knowledge, the desire for establishing and representation of identity, resistance to ourselves and "moulds" of society, etc.
