diplomsko delo
Abstract

REFLECTION AND GOD IN ETTY HILLESUM`S AN INTERRUPTED LIFE |
| Secondary abstract: |
An Interrupted Life is the title of the book of Etty Hillesum's collected diaries and letters. Etty started writing her diary in 1941 on the initiative of the psychologist and palmist Julius Spier at the time of German's occupation of Holland. In the first part of the diary, Etty focuses mainly on her unbalanced emotions towards Spier, she confronts her inner chaos, dissatisfaction and sadness. Writing the diary serves as a therapy for restoring her inner peace and she rarely mentions the outside circumstances. The Graduation Thesis mainly focuses on the portrayal of Etty Hillesum through the symbols which she often mentions in order to describe personal experiences in the most difficult and dreadful circumstances. While her existence becomes more and more threatened, she discovers her personal God, whom she understands in a completely unconventional way. Thus, the diary entries change from being a therapeutic tool for finding inner order to a conversation with God. At the end of the Graduation Thesis we discuss Etty's relationship with God and her transition from thinking to acting. |
