Abstract

V diplomskem delu predstavimo algoritem za stiskanje slik s podatkovno-odvisno triangulacijo. Ustvarili smo svojo različico algoritma redčenja s prilagajanjem, ki so jo v preteklih delih razvili Laurent Demaret, Nira Dyn in Armin Iske. V prvem delu smo analizirali implementacijske podrobnosti algoritma in argumentirali njihovo uporabo. V drugem delu smo prikazali rezultate učinkovitosti in hitrosti stiskanja podatkovno-odvisne triangulacije ter te primerjali z rezultati sodobnega algoritma JPEG. Pokazali smo, da se naša metoda v določenih situacijah obnese mnogo bolje, kadar je na sliki veliko gradientnih prehodov, v večini primerov pa sta algoritma primerljiva.

Secondary abstract: In this thesis, an image compression algorithm, which utilises data-dependent triangulations, was presented. We have created our own version of the adaptive thinning algorithm which was developed by Laurent Demaret, Nira Dyn and Armin Iske. The first part of the thesis explains the implementation details of chosen method and provides arguments for its use. The second part presents the results of the compression by measuring its performance. The results were compared with a popular image compression standard JPEG, which proves that our method in certain situations performs much better when the image has many gradient transitions. However, in most cases the triangulation-dependent method was comparable to JPEG.
