Abstract

Secondary title: The impact of detergents in the waste water from laundry on acute toxicity to water flea daphnia magna
Secondary abstract: The "Regulation on the emission of substances in the discharge of waste water from washing and dry-cleaning, Ur.l.RS No. 51/11 " (6), issued by the legislative body of the EU and the Republic of Slovenia prescribes a specific range of chemical, microbiological and ecotoxicological tests/parameters. These must be carried out as part of the operational monitoring of a given source of industrial wastewater (from laundries). The prescribed ecotoxicological investigations include acute toxicity to daphnid Daphnia magna. The purpose of this research is ecotoxicological testing and QSAR modeling to evaluate the impact of detergents on the toxicity of waste water to daphnid Daphnia magna. The results of ecotoxicological testing and QSAR modelling demonstrated that the amount of anionic detergent in industrial waste water from laundries have crucial influence on the toxicity to the selected daphnid and thus on the aquatic ecosystem.
