Abstract

Secondary title: Urban transformation and regeneration Zadar - south
Secondary abstract: Ever since the time of the Roman Empire, Zadar was the cultural and administrative center of the region. Because of its good strategic position throughout history, Zadar has evolved rapidly, gaining a new structure and change of purpose. The project deals with the city of Zadar, not only as a successful tourist destination, but as a center of economic, cultural and social development. The narrower focus of the project is in the former station, one of the unused and very important areas in the city where we want to create the spark of sustainable development, which will act as an initiator of further development and life of the city. We highlight the importance and development of the concept of sustainability, through history, as urbanism and architecture, and the use of this concept in planning of the project. Indeed, in the focus area we have dealt with urbanistic solution, which will have a positive impact on the city, as in the environmental context, as well as in context of development (economic and cultural). Structure of built environement is mounted so, as to preserve the historical essence of the location and to adapt those qualities to the current and future needs of modern society, of course, with respect towards environmental quality and conditions. The importance of the project lies in exposing the full potential of Zadar as a city, and promoting awareness of sustainable development in building and planning, but also to the city as a whole. As the dominant point of the project, and the area of the narrower focus, we pointed out the tower at the northeast corner of the whole of the area. The circular tower, also used as a lookout tower, primarily intended for commercial premises, is also linking that area with the rest of the city. Conceived as a sustainable building, using solar films and the efficiency of local qualities, the skyscraper from the architectural and energetic view, is to serve as a model for further development at the micro level.
