Abstract

Secondary title: The Design and Construction of a System for the Controlled Conversion of Optical Fiber using a CO2 Laser.
Secondary abstract: Optical fibers are used in many devices, due to their good qualities. Certain applications require an interaction between the field and the surrounding area, which can be achieved by optical fiber tapering. This thesis describes the complete production of a system for transforming of fiber. Furthermore it describes the manufacture of mechanical parts of the system, and the implementation of the program into a microcontroller. The aim of the thesis is to produce a functional device, which would be of use also in practice.
