magistrsko delo
Abstract

How family influences children´s interest in listening to different musical styles |
Secondary abstract: |
School has an important role in development of child's aesthetic taste and proper evaluation of music work in modern »polluted« environment. Through systematically planned process of encouragement and experiencing the music and through directed perception of its executive resources and expressive elements we want to develop conscious listener who will be able to discover meaningful and artistic value of music of different music styles, a listener who will on this basis, express appropriate level of interest in its listening. School and extracurricular activities influence on the development of pupil's interest in listening. We studied the influence of family environment on the development of interest in listening to different music styles of fourth graders. Theoretical discoveries were completed with empirical survey which included a 3 month experimental model with two parallel groups of fourth graders (experimental and control group). Based on existing Music syllabus we formed didactic units with emphasis on listening of different music styles (rap, jazz, ballet, rock, folk, classical, electronic and opera music). Systematic and directed listening activities were performed during music lessons in experimental and control group. Experimental group did the listening activities in school and at home in family environment. For that purpose, we created musical folder in which all the product were stored and evaluated. Cooperation and role of the family in the development of interest in listening to music was observed only in experimental group. The initial and final level of interest toward different music styles was tested with a questionnaire in both of the groups. We also formed a questionnaire for parents. It was about interest in listening to different music styles with children in family environment for experimental and control group. We studied if systematical planned and guided activities of active listening to different music styles in school beside intensive involvement of family influences the interest of pupils for listening to different music works. Results of the research indicated that the experimental group showed higher overall interest in listening to music than the control group. We found out that there are not statistical important differences between the interest of pupils and involvement of family members in listening to different musical styles. The survey also presented that family members' interests in listening to different musical styles do not affect the interest of their children's interest in listening to different musical styles. There are no statistically significant relationships between musical participation of parents and siblings (singing in a choir, playing music instruments, attending concerts) with children's interests in listening to different music styles. The survey in general did not confirm a significant impact of family on the development of children's interest in listening to different music styles. |
