Abstract

POVZETEK Teoretična izhodišča: Diplomsko delo govori o probiotikih in koristi probiotikov v prehrani starostnikov.

Secondary title: PROBIOTICS IN THE DIET OF THE ELDERLY
Secondary abstract: ABSTRACT Basics: The diploma thesis is about probiotics and the benefits of probiotics in the diet of elderly people. Probiotics are the beneficial microorganisms, which in sufficient quantities have a positive impact on the host and also have a beneficial impact of strengthening the immune system and the intestinal microbiota. They have anti-inflammatory action and have many other positive effects on both preventive as well as curative level. The purpose of the diploma thesis was to find out whether elderly people are familiar with probiotics and if they use them. Methodology: Descriptive and quantitative methodology was used. Data was collected using an anonymous structured questionnaire containing 14 questions. 70 questionnaires were distributed and all of them were returned and correctly completed. Results and disscusion: Based on the analysis of the results, we found out that elderly people are not familiar with probiotics or that they equate them mainly with fibre. Most elderly people consume probiotics as foodstuff, despite many probiotic dietary supplements. Conclusions: Probiotics are not so well known yet among the elderly. They do not consume probiotics by intentional selection.
