diplomsko delo univerzitetnega študija
Abstract

The level of citizens' satisfaction with community policing in Hrastnik |
Secondary abstract: |
Community policing is relatively a new concept of police work. This is why we decided to introduce the definitions of the concept, its elements and attributes. We studied community policing in other countries in the world, namely in Croatia, China and New Zealand. Our focus was on community policing in Slovenia, particularly on its presence and development in municipality of Hrastnik. We also wanted to determine the citizens’ satisfaction with the police work. Therefore we conducted a survey among citizens of Hrastnik. We wanted to know their opinion about the quality of police contact with citizens and community cohesion. Additionally, we wanted to determine an individual’s perception of crime and disorder and the personal fear of victimization. In the analysis we categorized individuals into age groups and the place of residence. We found out that the majority of respondents are satisfied with the quality of police contacts with people. More satisfied are those individuals who live in rural areas. Drinking in public places, fights and attacks, vandalism, theft and accumulation of worthless goods are mostly not a problem in the municipality of Hrastnik. More of these problems can be detected in an urbanized area and among elderly citizens. We also found out that the majority of respondents never felt fear of crime, among which were predominantly younger individuals. Compared to the middle-aged and senior citizens, the young are of the opinion that the community relationship is the least good. On average the citizens of Hrastnik are satisfied with the cohesion of the community. |
