Abstract

Secondary title: Growth of selected human opportunistic fungi on three selected neurotransmitters
Secondary abstract: Alzheimer's disease is now one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases and its incidence is increasing. There are many studies dealing with the causes of the disease. Some of them state that fungi can cause the Alzheimer disease. Currently, there is insufficient evidence to establish with certainty that the fungi are the real reason for the occurrence of Alzheimer's disease. Today it is not yet clear whether the fungi are the cause or the consequence of Alzheimer's disease. In my thesis I investigated the growth of 61 strains of human opportunistic fungi, belonging to 19 genera and 56 species on three selected neurotransmitters: glutamate, gamma- aminobutyric acid and acetylcholine. I proved that certain fungi with neurotropic properties grow well on the active neurotransmitters.
