Abstract

Ti medijem pripisujejo poenostavljanje, stereotipiziranje, enostranskost, senzacionalizem in druge strategije poročanja, s katerimi mediji ustvarjajo popačeno podobo o pojavu in žrtvah trgovine z ljudmi.

Secondary title: Media presentation of human trafficking in Slovenia
Secondary abstract: Due to increased illegal migrations caused by war circumstances or poor economic and political situation in countries of origin, human trafficking, which media often describe as present-day or modern slavery, has become a popular topic in media. The theme in the media often become a topic of discussion in the media audience. So the media largely determine the topics on which the public will think and discuss. My diploma thesis is focused on the way Slovenian media report on human trafficking. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the exact concept of human trafficking is defined, as well as its factors and procedure and the difference between human smuggling and human trafficking. Individual forms of human trafficking and its normative national framework are also described. The next chapter captures experts' and reserchers' theories on media reports on human trafficking. They attribute to media simplification, stereotyping, partiality, sensationalism and other reporting strategies that form a distorted image of human trafficking victims. Empiric part of the thesis deals with the analysis of media articles on internet media centers 24ur.com, Rtvslo.si, Delo.si and Dnevnik.si, related to human trafficking in years 2005 and 2015. Characteristics of journalistic discourse on human trafficking were established by quantitative and qualitative analysis of contents. The quantitative analysis is focused on the scope of human trafficking news in researched years and its forms in individual media, and in qualitative research the characteristics of discourse are established through critical discoursive analysis.
