Abstract

Secondary title: Eating habits of preschool children
Secondary abstract: Children gain their eating habits in the first years of their lives. Therefore it is essential to offer them a variety of food from an early age and to introduce them to healthy eating habits. The purpose of this diploma thesis is to determine what kind of eating habits preschool children have according to their parents' evaluation and whether there are any differences in eating habits between the two age groups (2 and 4-year-olds). 100 questionnaires were distributed to children's parents. The results have shown no statistically important differences in eating habits between the two age groups. The majority of 2 and 4-year old children eat their breakfast and aftenoon meal in the kindergarten and most children eat dinner every day. On average children are served 5 meals a day. When at home most children consume their meals at the dinning table together with their families. Parents provide their children with healthy snacks. Older children consume more high sugar content snacks, e. g. biscuits, chocolate and candies. They consume fruit more often than vegetables. Even though children have more meals in the kindergarten it is essential for parents to provide them with healthy food in their households. The nutrition should be well balanced and consumed in a pleasant environment. Parents should encourage their children and other family members to have a healthy nutrition.
