Abstract

Secondary title: The importance of outdoor activities for the development of motor skills in children
Secondary abstract: This thesis, entitled The significance of physical activity in nature for motor development of the child, explored the way physical activities in a natural environment affect the child's motor development. The empirical data obtained from motor proficiency tests indicated that physical activity in nature improves motor development. The results of the experimental and the control group were also compared. The thesis consists of a theoretical and an empirical part. The theoretical part describes motor development of the child from birth and to the age of six. It touches on motor activities in winter and summer and points to the importance of regular physical activity and the impact of the lack thereof on the child's motor development. Moreover, it discusses the role of preschool teachers in physical activities in nature. As for the empirical part, it is based on motor proficiency tests that show whether physical activity in nature improves the development of motor skills or reduces the number of sick days. It also explores whether sick days negatively affect the development of motor skills. The research was conducted using an experimental method. The children in the experimental group spent a considerable amount of time in nature throughout the school year. The children in the control group only participated in the regular sports activities in line with the curriculum. The quantitative technique was used for data collection, while 12 different motor proficiency tests served as the measuring instrument. After processing the results it transpired that physical activity in nature has a positive effect on children's health.
