Abstract

Secondary title: Antenatal health care - informedness of slovenian pregnant women
Secondary abstract: Introduction: Pregnancy is a special period of a woman's life and although most pregnant women are healthy and have no problems in pregnancy, it is important that they are informed in time about individual procedures and interventions that are carried out in pregnancy. Purpose: The purpose of the diploma thesis is to introduce prevention examinations in pregnancy and find out, by using an online survey, how well the Slovenian pregnant women are informed about the procedures carried out during pregnancy. Methods of work: In the thesis I have used a descriptive and a causal non-experiemental method of empirical research, based on the review of scientific and published text books and online survey implementation. Descriptive statistics including frequencies and percentages has been used for the analysis of results. Results: 467 pregnant women took part in the online survey, 87% were treated as healthy or low-risk, whereas 13% were high-risk ones. 99% (446) of pregnant women are informed with the purpose of routine blood pressure measurement in pregnancy. It is rather suprising that 91% (169) of pregnant women are familiar with blood tests that are carried out in pregnancy. However, only 40% (169) of them know that all pregnant women are entitled to 2 ultrasound examinations. They are well-informed about diagnostic tests for chromosome aberrations because 80% of all respondents had correct answers to all the questions. Discussion and conclusion: The results show that the Slovenian pregnant women are well-informed about prevention examinations that are carried out in pregnancy. They just lack information about the number of prevention examinations and ultrasound tests in pregnancy so health workers should introduce them all examinations and procedures that they are entitled to in pregnancy.
