Abstract

Sodelovale so bolnišnice UKC Maribor, Ortopedska bolnišnica Valdoltra, Splošna bolnišnica Brežice, Splošna bolnišnica Novo mesto, Splošna bolnišnica Murska Sobota, Splošna bolnišnica Slovenj Gradec, Splošna bolnišnica dr. Jožeta Potrča Ptuj in Splošna bolnišnica Celje. V magistrskem delu slikovno prikazujemo pripravo in aplikacijo zdravila, potrebnega za splošno anestezijo. Pridobljeni material in informacije smo primerjali s predstavljenim standardom in raziskavami s področja barvnega označevanja brizgalk.

Secondary title: Systems of color coded syringes for preventing medication errors in anesthesiology
Secondary abstract: Introduction and problem description: In anaesthesia medication administration errors might occur. Standards of color-coding syringes in anaesthesia and in intensive therapy are formed to prevent or reduce the possibility of errors incurred in administering drugs during anaesthesia. Colour coding of syringes is designed to increase safer administration of medicines in anaesthesia, intensive therapy and, consequently, increases patient safety. Methodology: Eight Slovenian hospitals were included in the research sample; from those we received coloured stickers for labelling syringes in anaesthesia. Thence 42% of Slovenian hospitals were included in the research. The following hospitals took part UKC Maribor (University Medical Centre Maribor), Ortopedska bolnišnica Valdoltra (Ortopeadic hospital Valdoltra), Splošna bolnišnica Brežice (General Hospital Brežice), Splošna bolnišnica Novo mesto (General Hospital Novo mesto), Splošna bolnišnica Murska Sobota (General Hospital Murska Sobota), Splošna bolnišnica Slovenj Gradec (General Hospital Slovenj Gradec), Splošna bolnišnica dr. Jožeta Potrča Ptuj (General Hospital dr. Jožeta Potrča Ptuj), and Splošna bolnišnica Celje (General hospital Celje). Then, the execution of preparation and medicine administration needed for general anaesthesia were presented in picture. The material and information we gained were compared to the presented standard and the research done in the field of colour-coding syringes. Results: Slovenia does not have a formed standard for color-coding syringes in anaesthesia. All hospitals included in this research are using color-coding of syringes but all these labels have an internal shape, of each hospital separately. Therefore, these colour labels vary within the same hospital as well as among hospitals included, in size, as well as in colour and font. Conclusion: To increase safety in the field of color-coding syringes in anaesthesia a use of an established standard is required. This would manage a unified labelling of syringes within the country and, consequently, increase the safety of patients during hospitalization. An established standard has a carefully designed process for colour identification of syringes, explicit colour of labels for individual groups of medicines, shape and size of labels, shape colour and font size as well as content of the label required for identification of medicinal products.
