Abstract

Secondary title: Analysis of the state qualification tests within first aid teams of civil defence and Red cross Slovenia between years 1994 and 2015
Secondary abstract: Introduction: First aid is the immediate help we provide before the arrival of an ambulance. First aid knowledge tests, organised by Red Cross Slovenia and Slovenian Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief, are present, in independent Slovenia, since 1994. The aims of these tests are finding out the level of qualification of the first aid teams' members, renewal of the teams' knowledge, and the motivation for the best possible first aid performance. Purpose: To gain an insight, through the chosen parameters, into the trend of the state tests' development, to find the key changes in the tests' development, and to find out the dynamics of it: whether has the development been constant and whether have the levels of difficulty and quality of the tests' performance, and teams' knowledge, risen. Work methods: We used the descriptive research method of work with the overview of the articles from Slovenian and foreign literature. The articles were sought for in various databases and on open access pages online. Our main documentation sources were the analyses of individual state tests which we received at The Slovenian Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief. Results: Throughout the years, the level of the tests' difficulty has risen, new examples of the evaluative sheets were added (CPR of a child, injury of a pregnant woman, various combinations of injuries), evaluative system has changed, teams from foreign countries have participated in the tests from time to time, and with the inclusion of pupils, people with special needs and other forces for protection and disaster relief, the scenario of the tests has become more and more complex. In 2003, the organisers moved the tests from The Training Centre of The Slovenian Administration for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief in Ig to larger city centres, which enabled the general public and the pupils of primary and secondary schools to also watch the tests. Discussion and conclusion: We have found out that the level of the tests' difficulty and the knowledge of the teams have both risen throughout the years. The changes, being implemented, have a positive impact on the qualification and performance of the teams. The tests are crucial not only because of the progress in the first aid teams' knowledge, but also because they spread knowledge about the activities of The Civil Protection and Red Cross Slovenia and motivate people to learn about and perform first aid.
