Abstract

Secondary title: Analysis and proposal for resolving vehicle collisions with wild ungulates in the postojna-ilirska bistrica area
Secondary abstract: In the thesis, vehicle collisions with roe deer, red deer and wild boar in the period between 2005 and 2015 in the Postojna%Ilirska Bistrica area has been analysed. The data for 11 hunting clubs were obtained from the information base Lisjak as well as by interviewing members of hunting clubs. The results have shown that in the study area, the majority of vehicle collisions with wild animals, 78,9 %, involved roe deer, followed by red deer in 12,6 % and wild boar in 8,4 % of the cases. Vehicle collisions with roe deer prevailed over vehicle collisions with red deer and wild boar also in the areas of individual hunting clubs. From the results of the survey on mitigating measures used we have established that the most frequently used mitigating measure is the formal traffic sign %Wild animals on the road%, used by all hunting clubs in the study area. From the analysis of spatial distribution of vehicle collisions with wild ungulates, we have established that the highest density of vehicle collisions occurs on locations where living conditions for roe deer, red deer and wild boar are more appropriate and in the areas where the road network divides otherwise unfragmented stands of meadows and agricultural crops.
