Abstract

Nato smo še določili zeta potencial bombažnih, surovih in obdelanih vlaknin (čiščenje, kislinska in alkalna obdelava, beljenje) z namenom vzpostavitve korelacije med surovimi in obdelanimi bombažnimi tkaninami. Rezultati meritev pretočnega potenciala jasno kažejo na razlike površinskih lastnosti surovih in obdelanih bombažnih vlaknin kjer ima alkalijsko obdelan bombaž največjo dostopnost disociiranih hidroksilnih in karboksilnih skupin na površini, kar vidimo v porastu negativnega zeta potenciala.

Secondary title: Zeta potential determination and statistical evaluation of cotton fabrics using a cylindrical cell
Secondary abstract: Elektrokinetic properties describe the electrical potential adjacent to a solid surface, if it is moving in the surrounding liquid phase. It is described by zeta potential. Austrian company Anton Paar GmbH from Graz has developed the SurPASS elektrokinetic analyzer, which is based on a streaming potential/streaming current for determining the zeta potential. Zeta potential measurements using this streaming potential method were performed regarding the quality of the supplied raw cotton fibres from east countries (China, India,… ). The quality of the raw cotton fibres has a strong influence on the final product. Low- quality cotton requires the repetition of different process steps, which increases production costs. We determined the zeta potential of cotton-knitted fabrics, both raw and modified (de-waxed, acid and alkali treated and pre-bleached), in order to establish any correlation between the raw and treated cotton knitted fabrics. The streaming potential measurements clearly showed the differences in the surface properties between the raw and modified cottons. The alkali pre- treatment caused a pronounced decrease in zeta potential, and an improvement in the accessibility of dissociable groups of cotton knitted fabrics.
